5 common mistakes when applying renovlies

Avoid problems with renovlies. Read the 5 most common mistakes made when applying renovlies wallpaper and how to prevent them.

Why does renovlies sometimes go wrong?

Renovlies sounds simple: paste, dry, paint. But in practice we regularly see projects where the end result is disappointing, not because the material is bad, but because mistakes were made during installation. Here are the five most common ones.

Mistake 1: Insufficient preparation of the substrate

This is by far the most common mistake. If the wall is not clean, dry and flat, the renovlies will not bond properly. Dust reduces adhesion. Unevenness becomes visible after painting. Moisture spots cause the wallpaper to come loose.

Solution: Sand the walls mechanically before application. Repair uneven areas with finishing filler. Make sure the wall is dry and free from grease or loose material.

Mistake 2: Using the wrong adhesive

Renovlies requires specific fleece wallpaper adhesive. Regular wallpaper paste is too weak for this material. Some DIY users apply general-purpose adhesive from the hardware store, with loose strips as the result.

Solution: Always use adhesive intended specifically for fleece wallpaper and mix it in the correct ratio. Glue that is too thin is also a problem because it dries too fast and gives insufficient bonding.

Mistake 3: Joining the strips incorrectly

Renovlies strips must join seamlessly. Too much overlap creates a visible ridge. Too little overlap creates an opening. Both become visible after painting.

Solution: Use the overlap-cut method: place the strips slightly over one another, cut through both layers with a sharp knife, remove the excess and the strips will align perfectly.

Mistake 4: Painting too early

Many people are impatient and begin painting before the renovlies has dried completely. The result is loose renovlies, air bubbles or poor paint adhesion.

Solution: Wait at least 12 hours, or 24 hours if the humidity is high. Ventilate the room well. The renovlies must feel completely dry before you pick up the brush or roller.

Mistake 5: Poor work in corners and around frames

Corners, frames and ceiling junctions are the most difficult parts. This is where we often see sloppy cutting, loose edges or uneven glue distribution.

Solution: Use a sharp knife and a straight edge for clean cutting lines. Wipe the edges with a damp sponge to remove excess glue. Press corners firmly with a rubber roller.

Conclusion: leave it to a specialist

Applying renovlies is not advanced mathematics, but it does require experience, the right tools and attention to detail. Especially in new-build homes, where you want your investment to last as long as possible, it pays to hire a professional.
